Knocking on your door.

Get ready! I’m going to start knocking on your door. :)

So, not really…but…I recently finished up a beautiful class taught by Molly Flanagan at the Define School called Visual Storytelling. I’ve always been drawn to what I refer to as the “in-between” image. The photo where no one is looking at the camera and everyone is engrossed in an activity or in playing with each other…or simply that moment before or after a photo where everyone is relaxed and purely themselves. That’s what originally made me fall in love with photography. I love photographing people having fun and enjoying themselves. There is a time an a place for beautiful portrait, but capturing memories and life and love and reality is why I love getting behind my camera. I had a GREAT time taking photos for this class. I focused on my own family and photographing a whole lot of reality in our home. My final project for the course was this story about my little man’s love for his Grandpa. I just feel like photos like these are the ones we are the ones that make us happy and make us reminisce and make us enjoy life a little more too. Just before I took this class, I did an in-home lifestyle session for a friend of mine. We (more like she) planned a few normal activities that their family did together and we photographed them. I wanted to share a few photos from our session to illustrate the type of photos that I want to start taking for you.

In-Home sessions might take a little longer (closer to two hours), but planning is so simple…wear your normal clothes, be your normal self, and do your normal thing. I’m really excited about having these as an option for the steamy hot summer months and freezing cold winter months. This is also going to change the way I do newborn photos — in a big way. Other than the ones I have on the books, I will now be offering newborn sessions as in-home sessions only. I will do a few photos of the baby curled up on a blanket with a cute hat or headband or two, but I want most of the photos to include the family, your home environment, and your normal (ha ha) new baby routine.

Hooray. We’re here to stay.

I’ve got good news! We’re staying in Lafayette. I’m excited to be sticking around! I had mixed emotions about the potential move, but I’m glad that we still get to call this place home. I have some changes/new style of sessions that I want to start offering in the near future. But for now, enjoy these photos.

Let’s talk about winter.

What? You’re over it. Me too, but wasn’t it beautiful??

I took Gavin to hort park today to meet up with a friend. The blooms aren’t there yet. I’m crossing my fingers they’ll come in next week since it’s suppose to warm up a little. We’ve been having fun the past few days. I put up a hand me down (but amazing) play house in our living room while it rained. That was a good life choice. It has kept Gavin incredibly entertained and happy….and it’s kept me sane. He’s still napping by the way — and it’s nearly 4. I need to wake him…….

Hello there spring.

I say that like it’s a nice day today — but sadly, it’s not. It’s rainy. Like normal. I don’t think I could ever live in a state where rain is rampant. I need those sunny days to get me through. You know, I talk about the weather on this blog a LOT. And, I know that’s probably really boring. I’ve been perfecting my blogging on my personal blog, and it’s made me realize why I’m so terrible at keeping up with this blog. I always try to say something interesting about the photos I’m posting. But I feel like I just repeat myself (just like my weather talk). On my personal blog, I’ve been making random notes about what’s going on or what went on awhile ago that I didn’t blog about. And, I’m getting better. Maybe I’ll actually be able to make it into a book at the end of this year?

Anyway, I want to change what I say and do here to hopefully improve the quality of posts. There’s a blogging family of photographers that I follow. They always tell a story about what’s going on in THEIR lives and then attach their client photos below. So maybe, I’ll start doing that. So, what’s going on in my life. Gavin is teething again. Hello, two year molars. Welcome to our world.

And now to share some photos with you. :)

Bittersweet

Bittersweet is such a perfect way to describe the news I have to share in this post. Don’t worry, it’s nothing dramatic!

My studio lease ended at the end of March, and I moved everything back home. This is very bittersweet because I really did enjoy having a studio. With that said, there were so many, many things that needed to be done differently for studio life to function perfectly for me. For starters, it NEEDS to be bigger. Secondly, I need to have more variety in the way I do backdrops. And ultimately, the reason the I ended my studio lease is that there’s some potential that my husband will be transferred at work, and I don’t want to be stuck with a studio that’s not in my town. I’ll know more about that in a little over a month (hopefully), but for now, I’m staying in full fledged business in Lafayette (praying that it actually gets warm and we can get OUTSIDE for some photos). In the mean time, I’ll enjoy snuggling some sweet little newborns.

Also, I’m taking a photography class throughout the month of April that I’m SUPER excited about. The amazingly talented Molly Flanagan is teaching a class on storytelling photography. I did a session like this with a friend of mine recently, and it’s a concept I’m exploring as an option to offer sessions like them.

So, basically, when I know for sure if we are staying in town, I’ll be looking for a bigger studio space, and if we move, then I’ll be coming back to town to take your pictures as often as I possibly can!!

Here’s some photos from my most recent (and one of the last) in-studio sessions that I enjoyed!
